The Coming of A Traditional Grassroot Soccer Team

By Jahrock Ujewe,

Since the club was founded in 2000, they have painstakingly worked their way up on the pecking order of grassroot football clubs in Delta State.

They have had their golden generation of players, who have etched their names on the memories of lovers of grassroot football in the state between 2008 and 2015.

In 2010, they were bronze medalists in the Gulder Five-a-Side National Football Championships. Thereafter, they claimed the 2013 Utuama Peace Cup and the 2014 Ewu Peace Cup in spectacular style respectively.

Beyond every reasonable doubt, the coming of Royal Eagles Football Club, like Bobbies FC, Ekete United, Future Stars, amongst others, will definitely bring cult followership to the 2019 Bet9ja Royal Cup. The Oleh-based club are among the teams that will stay with the chase for the coveted Royal Cup crown.

Though their glorious days seem to have considerably gone behind them, never underestimate a Royal Eagles’ side. They can trounce any seemingly fine team on a good day.

Speaking on their target for the 2019 Bet9ja Royal Cup, the club’s head coach, Emeotu Andrew Oreromena, said they want to give their players exposure, as they would play clubs from other parts of the state.

Coach Oreromena stated that grassroot teams should focus more on the developmental goals of the competition and not on the top prize cash for the overall winners.

“We want to use the Royal Cup to expose our players,” he said. “Hopefully, we will meet other good teams from various parts of the state.”

“We want to use this opportunity well. If we win the competition is not bad, but what I told you before is our aim here.”

“All teams should see it as a developmental competition,” he added. “The prize money is not everything in a tournament. Let your grow and have a better career.”

As the clock eagerly ticks towards the kick-off date of September 14,2019, Royal Eagles would hope to use this soccer tourney to light up their best moments again in Delta State grassroot football.

The Eagles will play their qualifying games in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.
